Welcome to High Country German Shepherds!

 We are a small “Mom and Pop”, full time breeder of top quality, working line, German Shepherds. Established in 2008, we are located in the very center of the state of Colorado in the Rocky mountains, 1 hour west of Colorado Springs, and about 2 hours SW of Denver.
     Our goal is to breed German Shepherds who are top quality, affordable, healthy, dogs that have stable temperaments. Our dogs are predominantly Czech and German working blood lines with straighter backs, and a strong work ethic. We breed a broad gene pool and do not line breed, therefore our dogs are not “cookie cutter” in color, size, or general build. All our dog’s hips and elbows have been checked, and passed by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). We do genetic testing to insure none of our puppies will develop DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) which is very prevalent in German Shepherds(And in other breeds as well). (Detailed information regarding DM is at the bottom of our “Contact Page” page). The medical documentation paperwork is available for viewing when you come visit our dogs or puppies. The puppy you pick up will have started their shots and worming, been micro-chipped, and Vet checked. They will come with a medical record book, shot schedule, sale contract, guarantees, and starter bag.

We breed for black and tan, black and red, sable, solid black and bi-color puppies. Mostly we have short coat dogs, but do produce a limited number of long coat pups.
    We want all of our puppies placed in homes where they will be loved, cared for, and socialized. We strongly encourage our puppy families to train their puppy, so he/she can be an enjoyable part of their family. Trained dogs are a positive addition to the lives of their families. 
 Our pups can vary in drives and excitability levels but all are capable of doing a job suited to their individual drive levels. We try to make it a top priority to match the right puppy to the right family, but ultimately you get to pick the puppy you feel is the best fit.
Our dog’s bloodlines are very versatile. We breed puppies who could excel in Search and Rescue, Schutzhund, IPO, French Ring, Agility, or be great pets and companions.

Many of our pups have been sold as PTSD service dogs, seizure detection, therapy dogs, and family/personal protection.
